Overview
If you are a US-based loan-out worker hired on a project with work performed in Canada, you are required to provide your Canada Business Number (CBN) during onboarding.
Wrapbook collects the CBN to meet Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) filing requirements. Canadian tax slips issued to US Loan Out workers (T4A-NR) must include the full CRA program account number.
What is a Canada Business Number (CBN)?
A Canada Business Number (CBN) is a unique identifier issued by the CRA to businesses operating in Canada. For Loan Out workers, this is the full 15-character CRA program account number, which includes:
Component | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
9-digit business number | Core identifier assigned by CRA |
|
2-letter program ID | Identifies the type of account (e.g., RC = corporate income tax) |
|
4-digit reference number | Identifies a specific account within the program |
|
Full CBN format: 123456789RC0001
Note: The CBN field now requires the full 15-character format. A 9-digit Business Number alone is no longer accepted for new submissions.
During onboarding: How to enter your CBN
When completing your onboarding for a Canada-based project, you will be prompted to enter your CBN.
Locate your 15-character CRA program account number (see your CRA correspondence or My Business Account portal at canada.ca)
Enter the full 15-character number in the CBN field (for example,
123456789RC0001)Continue through the remaining onboarding steps
What if I don't have a CBN yet?
If your loan-out company does not yet have a registered CBN, you can select I've applied for my CBN but haven't received it yet during onboarding to proceed. Your response is recorded with a timestamp so that Wrapbook's Tax Operations team can follow up with you to collect the number before CRA filing deadlines.
Important: You’ll still need to provide your CBN before CRA tax slips can be issued. Contact your production administrator if you have questions about next steps. You can find your production administrator contact on your project dashboard.
Why am I seeing a CBN prompt on a non-Canada project?
The CBN prompt is triggered by Canadian work locations associated with your loan-out company across all projects — not just your current project. If your loan-out company has worked on any project that includes Canada work locations, Wrapbook may prompt you for a CBN even when you are onboarding to a project that is not primarily Canada-based.
This is expected behavior. If you believe this is an error, contact your production administrator.
