Understanding Your NYC ESSTA Balance

Overview

If you work in New York City, you may be entitled to safe and sick leave under the NYC Earned Safe and Sick Time Act (ESSTA). Effective February 22, 2026, ESSTA was amended to require eligible employers to provide an additional 32 hours of unpaid, front-loaded safe and sick leave annually. Wrapbook surfaces your ESSTA unpaid leave balance directly on your paystub each pay period to keep you informed and ensure compliance with the law.

You will see an ESSTA section on your paystub if both of the following are true:

How to find your ESSTA balance on your paystub

Your available balance is calculated as of the date your paystub is issued. To find this information on your paystub:

  1. Log in to your Wrapbook account at app.wrapbook.com

  2. In the left-side navigation, click Payments

  3. On your Payments dashboard, click the Paystub button next to the payment

The NYC Protected Time Off (Unpaid) section includes three rows and two columns:
