# How to request changes to a worker's Form I-9

## Overview

If a worker submits incorrect information in *Section 1* of their Form I-9, verifiers can request that the worker make corrections. Per [USCIS regulations](https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/completing-form-i-9/self-audits-and-correcting-mistakes), it is acceptable for changes to be made to *Section 1*.

Wrapbook supports two ways to request *Section 1* changes, depending on where you are in the I-9 process:

- [During *Section 2* verification](/v1/docs/how-to-request-changes-to-a-workers-form-i-9#fd26f241-1a87-4093-a456-b19b3920edbb)
- [After *Section 2* is signed](/v1/docs/how-to-request-changes-to-a-workers-form-i-9#81a74f82-d1e6-4c1c-b5a0-877834d3a9b2)

## Request changes during Section 2 verification

To request changes during *Section 2* verification:

1. In the left-side navigation, click the dropdown menu and select the project
2. In the left-side navigation, click **People**
3. On the project’s *People* dashboard, click on the name of the worker whose Form I-9 you want to review
4. Scroll down until you see the row for *Form I-9* and click the **Verify** button to open the worker’s Form I-9 page
5. At the top of the worker’s *Form I-9* page, click the **Action** button and then select **Request changes from worker**
6. In the *Request changes* popup, enter the *Reason for correction*
7. Click the **Send request** button

After you click the *Send request* button:

- The worker will receive an email with the subject line *Please resubmit your I-9 to get paid*, from @wrapbook.com, and including your *Reason for correction* message
- The *Form I-9* section of the [worker’s profile](/v1/docs/about-worker-profiles#overview) will say *Waiting for worker to fix errors and re-sign their Form I-9*
- Change requests are documented in the [*Log of events*](/v1/docs/how-to-request-changes-to-a-workers-form-i-9#log-of-events)

## Request changes after Section 2 is signed

If *Section 2* has already been completed and you need the worker to correct information in *Section 1*, you can initiate a correction request directly from Wrapbook.

To request a *Section 1* correction after *Section 2* is signed:

1. In the left-side navigation, click the dropdown menu and select the project
2. In the left-side navigation, click **People**
3. Click on the name of the worker whose Form I-9 needs to be corrected
4. Scroll down to the *Form I-9* row and click **View** button to open the worker's *Form I-9* page
5. At the top of the page, click the **Actions** button (this is only available when *Section 2* is signed)
6. Select **Request changes from worker**

The worker will receive an email notification and an in-app notification with a direct link to their I-9, asking them to make the changes and re-sign *Section 1.*

## How to re-verify and re-sign Section 2

After the worker makes the corrections and re-signs *Section 1*, an alert will appear on the project’s [People dashboard](/v1/docs/people-dashboard#project-people) prompting you to *re-verify and re-sign Section 2* to confirm the updated information.

If you’re ready to re-sign:

1. In the left-side navigation, click the dropdown menu and select the project
2. In the left-side navigation, click **People**
3. On the project’s *People* dashboard, click on the name of the worker whose Form I-9 you want to review
4. Scroll down until you see the row for *Form I-9* and click the **Verify** button to open the worker’s *Form I-9* page
5. Click **Sign here** in the document view to add your signature
6. Click the **Submit** button at the bottom of the page

**If there are still corrections that need to be made**:

1. Click the **Request changes** button on the *Form I-9* page
2. In the *Request changes* popup, click to select where the errors occur:
  - *Form I-9*
  - *Submitted documents*
3. In the *Form I-9 change request* section enter a **description of the error**
4. Click the **Send** button

The worker will receive an email notification and an in-app notification with a direct link to their I-9, asking them to correct the errors and re-sign *Section 1.*

## Log of events

The *Log of events* is a read-only audit trail that appears at the bottom of the worker's *Form I-9* page. It records all actions taken on an I-9 in chronological order.

Each entry in the *Log of events* includes:

- *Action* — the type of event that occurred (for example, a correction request sent, a Section 1 re-signature, or a Section 2 verification)
- *Timestamp* — the date and time the action was taken
- *User* — the name of the person who performed the action
- *IP address* — the IP address associated with the action

When a *Section 1* correction is requested after *Section 2* has already been signed, the original *Section 2* attestation is preserved in the *Log of events*; it is never deleted or overwritten. Once the worker re-signs *Section 1* and you complete [re-verification](/v1/docs/how-to-request-changes-to-a-workers-form-i-9#reverify-and-resign-section-2), a new *Section 2* entry is added to the log alongside the original.

The *Log of events* is a compliance record. Per [USCIS regulation](https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-resources/handbook-for-employers-m-274/100-retaining-form-i-9/101-form-i-9-and-storage-systems), employers must maintain a permanent, secure record of all changes made to electronic Form I-9s. Log entries cannot be edited or removed.
