# How to complete Form I-9 verification (Section 2) in Wrapbook

The [USCIS](https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/completing-form-i-9) requires *Section 2,* known as *Form I-9 verification*, be completed by the employer no later than the 3rd business day after the employee starts work for pay.

In Wrapbook, any user with Company Admin, Company Manager, Project Coordinator, Project Assistant, or Department Head roles can approve I-9s, unless custom permissions are in place.

Form I-9 verification consists of the employee presenting identification documents to be physically reviewed, an employer reviewing those documents in person for legitimacy, and then entering the document information into *Section 2* of the Form I-9. Once this is done, the employer adds their signature.

A list of types of identification documents that are acceptable to use can be found on the [USCIS website](https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents) or page 3 of the Form I-9.

To verify a Form I-9 in Wrapbook:

1. In the left-side navigation, click the dropdown menu
2. Select the project that you want to view worker Form I-9 for
3. In the left-side navigation, click **People**
4. On the project’s *People* dashboard, click on the name of the worker whose Form I-9 you want to review
5. You’ll see the Form I-9 with *Section 1* already completed by the worker. *Section 2* will be presented as a fillable PDF
6. Review the details the worker has entered into *Section 1*. If the worker has uploaded copies of their supporting documents, links to the images of those documents will be listed along with their expiration dates.
7. Enter the required information in *Section 2* as prompted, including entering your signature
8. Per [USCIS regulations](https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/completing-form-i-9/completing-section-2-employer-review-and-attestation), verifiers are responsible for entering the following information into *Section 2:*
  - Document details (title, issuing authority, document number, and expiration date)
  - Employee's work start date
  - Verifier's name, signature, title, and completion date
  - The employer's business name and physical address
9. Once all information is entered, scroll down and click the **Sign** button
10. On the worker’s *Form I-9* page, in the *Sign I-9* section, enter your full name
11. Click the **Sign I-9** button. Once you click the button, you’ll see your countersign date in the [*Log of events*](/v1/docs/how-to-request-changes-to-a-workers-form-i-9#log-of-events)

If you need to make changes to *Section 2* after you’ve signed the Form I-9 see [How to request changes to a worker's Form I-9](/v1/docs/how-to-request-changes-to-a-workers-form-i-9)

## **FAQ**

To help, we’ve put together the following list of frequently-asked questions and answers.

Click the arrow next to a question to see the answer.

#### What if I notice that information on Section 1 is incorrect?

- Verifiers can send the form back to the worker with notes if any information is incorrect. For instructions, see: [How to request changes to a worker’s Form I-9](/v1/docs/how-to-request-changes-to-a-workers-form-i-9)

#### Do rehires need to complete an entirely new Form I-9? What about workers who need to complete a Supplement B?

- Per [USCIS regulations](https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/completing-form-i-9/completing-supplement-b-reverification-and-rehires-formerly-section-3), rehires only need to complete *Supplement B*, however companies can choose in their *Company settings* to override this and enforce that new I-9s are required even for rehires. For instructions, see [How to complete Supplement B when rehiring workers](/v1/docs/how-to-complete-form-i-9-supplement-b-when-rehiring).

#### What can I do if I’m unable to complete Section 2?

- If you try to complete Section 2 and information is missing or incorrectly formatted, error messages will appear. To resolve the errors:
  - Confirm that dates entered use MM/DD/YYYY format
  - If there’s no expiration date or information to enter within a field, leave it blank, do not add “N/A” or a dash
  - Confirm that you have signed the form - If you correct any errors you will be prompted to re-sign the form again, to ensure you are attesting to the changed information. If you’re unable to sign the document on mobile or on the Wrapbook app, we recommend trying on a desktop computer

#### Can I complete the I-9 form on my phone?

- Yes! The I-9 workflow is mobile-friendly. You can complete your forms conveniently from a mobile device.

#### A worker submitted a foreign birth certificate as a List C document. Is that acceptable?

**No.** Foreign birth certificates are not valid for I-9 List C. List C only accepts **U.S.-issued** birth certificates (issued by a U.S. state, county, municipal authority, or U.S. territory bearing an official seal).

If a worker has submitted an invalid document, use the **Request Changes** function in Wrapbook to send the form back to the worker with a note explaining what is needed. See [How to request changes to a worker's Form I-9](/v1/docs/how-to-request-changes-to-a-workers-form-i-9) for instructions.

Foreign nationals should instead use a valid **List A** document — such as a foreign passport together with Form I-94, or an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) — rather than combining a foreign document with a List C document. See the [Forms I-9 FAQ](/v1/docs/forms-i-9#faq) for a full breakdown of acceptable documents for foreign nationals.
