About organizations

Overview

In Wrapbook, you can configure your company’s organizational structure using organizational units (OUs). This maintains clear boundaries between different OUs while enabling flexibility in managing permissions across the entire company.

OUs represent divisions or business units within a company, and they are used to control:

  • User management

  • Roles and permissions

  • Project ownership

  • Data access

Organizational units (OUs) versus Production entities (PEs)

In Wrapbook, there are organizational units and production entities. While OUs and PEs sound similar, there are differences between them:

  • OUs are used to manage company permissions and project access

  • PEs are used to manage financial transactions for projects

These two concepts relate to each other in that:

  • A single company can have multiple OUs and PEs

  • Projects can be associated with specific OUs for organizational purposes, and with one or more PEs for payroll and financial management

  • While OUs handle the organizational structure and permissions, PEs handle the financial and legal aspects like payroll processing and tax reporting

OU permissions

When OUs are are created:

  • Users in one OU cannot view worker, project, or payroll data from another OU

  • Financial information (like drawdown account balance, bank account details, and EINs) can be restricted to specific roles - for example, only accessible to a VP Finance at the top of the org structure but not by division heads

  • Projects can be assigned to specific OUs, which prevents users in other OUs from seeing them

Configure an organizational hierarchy

Arranging OUs in a hierarchical structure is particularly useful for large companies that have multiple divisions or legal entities, allowing them to separate things like union and non-union projects, and control data and reporting access based on which division users work in.

When an organizational hierarchy is set up:

  • The top level is the company (this could be the main studio or a corporation) which serves as the ultimate parent OU that everything rolls up to

  • Below that, OUs can be nested hierarchically to represent different divisions or business units within it

When you add an OU to an existing OU in your company structure:

  • The organization that you’re adding is called the child OU

  • The existing OU that you added the organization to is the parent OU
